Starlane

What changed

Starlane is built in the open and mostly built from the signal board. Ideas from players are marked, with what shipping them paid.

Ice is worth mining, and being first somewhere pays

  • A rock's kind now decides what comes out of it. Ice gives Water Ice, two units for every one cut — bulky and cheap against dense and dear.
  • The rare-earth rock is gone, remapped to rubble, which is what it was already giving you.
  • Charting a system nobody has taken you to pays 120 credits, once, and the locals think a little better of you.
  • The standing is the part worth collecting — no amount of credits can buy it.

The front page says the board is real

U3d

2026-09-07

  • The signed-out front page says how many player ideas have shipped and what they were paid.
  • Two numbers and nothing else. What you filed is still yours to see and nobody else's.
  • Signing up, resending a verification link and asking for a password reset now have a limit of a few attempts an hour.

A phone, a first evening, and something to look at

U3c

2026-09-07 · from the signal board · 2,500 paid

  • The dock, the contracts board, the objectives and the yard were unusable on a phone — the fee and the button were off the edge. Every board is a stack of cards now.
  • Nothing was hidden to make it fit.
  • There is a first evening now: a six-step list on the station you wake up on, which knows what you have already done.
  • It is a list, not a tutorial. Nothing is required, nothing is locked, and it disappears on its own.
  • There are icons now, beside the words rather than instead of them.

The belt is a place you can point at

U3b

2026-09-07 · from the signal board · 3,000 paid

  • The belt is a field of six rocks now, each drawn where it sits and sized by what is left in it.
  • They start unsurveyed. Clicking one tells you the ore, the grade and how much is in it — free, instant, and remembered.
  • Surface and seam stopped being modes you choose. You pick a rock, and it happens to be one or the other.
  • A rock runs out on its own and the rest of the field does not.
  • Nothing on any field pays more than the belt used to. This is texture rather than a raise.

A haul has something in it now

U3

2026-09-06 · from the signal board · 4,000 paid

  • A contract is a run of moments now — signing, loading, the approach, the handover — written for the cargo and the two stations it moves between.
  • How much of it you get depends on your licence: two moments and no decisions, up to six and three.
  • The decisions are real, and one answer is always something you can do with no skill, no standing and an empty tank.
  • A question stops the delivery until you answer it. You can still fly, trade and mine — it is the contract that waits, not you.
  • Two of the decisions move the fee on your own contract, up or down, and each says what it did.
  • Every screen was rebuilt to one design, so learning one board teaches you the rest.
  • A service that is down now says it is down, instead of rendering as an empty screen.
