Starlane

What changed

Starlane is built in the open and mostly built from the signal board. Ideas from players are marked, with what shipping them paid.

Whoever sent you out there now comes with you

  • The next thing to do follows you from screen to screen instead of waiting on the station page.
  • When you are on the right screen, the button you want is ringed.
  • It is on by default until your first evening is done, and you can switch it off on the rail itself or on your account page.
  • Switch it back on and it follows whichever story you are on — it waits quietly if you have finished them all.
  • Nothing is blocked or gated by it. Turn it off and the game is exactly the game.

The front page has a sky behind it, and says who is out there

  • The page a stranger lands on now opens on Sol, with the pitch over it.
  • It says how many pilots are flying and how many were active this month, beside the count of player ideas that have shipped and what they paid.
  • The five origins are on it, with their faces — where you woke up, who claims that space, and what you have to your name.
  • Nothing in the game changed. This is the door, not the room.

You can support Starlane, once there is somewhere to send it

  • There is a Support button on the supporters page. Stripe handles the payment; Starlane never sees your card.
  • One price, once — or monthly if you prefer it. Both buy exactly the same thing; there is no bigger version and there will not be one.
  • Supporting buys nothing that affects the game. Careers, skills, licences and every outcome are credits and time only.
  • Paying does not put your name on the credits page — that stays a separate choice on your account page, reversible for ever.

A page for the people paying for this

  • There is a supporters page at /supporters, readable signed in or not.
  • Nobody is on it unless they said so. A control on your account page puts your callsign up or takes it down, both directions, for ever.
  • Names are sized by how long somebody has supported, never by how much they gave.

No two pilots share a rank any more

  • The standings used to read 1 2 2 2 2 6. They now read 1 2 3 4 5 6.
  • Tied on the number? Whoever got there first is above.
  • Nothing about what the boards measure has changed, and none of it is buyable.
