Starlane

What changed

Starlane is built in the open and mostly built from the signal board. Ideas from players are marked, with what shipping them paid.

Other pilots can now attack you — in five systems, and nowhere else

  • Orion, Cygnus, Draco, Lyra and Hydra. Nowhere else, ever, and every station says so.
  • You do not pick a target — you spend the fuel, lie in wait twenty minutes, and find out who came past. Most of the time nobody does.
  • Only pilots actually at the controls can be found. Nobody gets robbed in their sleep.
  • What you can lose is cargo and possibly the ship. Credits, skills, certifications and standing are never at stake.
  • It needs a Black Market Contact, and what you take sells only on the rim.

A workshop bench now depends on the ship it is bolted to

  • Yards fit fabricator bays. A bay runs more than one batch of a recipe at a time, on the same clock.
  • Not every hull takes one, and the biggest bay is not on the best ship. There is no hull that answers mining, gas and manufacturing at once.
  • A bigger run is faster, not cheaper — buying four batches of inputs at one station costs more per unit than buying one.
  • If nothing is refitted, nothing has changed. And yards now sell gas rigs, which they always should have.

Less of the game is the bar at the top

  • On a small phone, a quarter of the screen was gone before the game started. The strip at the top is shorter now.
  • Nothing was removed — same gauges, same links, less room.

Somewhere to put things down

  • Every station has a locker with your name on it: twenty units of shelf, free, at every dock.
  • A locker is local. What you leave at Sol is collected at Sol.
  • More room costs credits — twenty-five units a block, twenty a day, up to two hundred extra.
  • When the rent runs out you lose the room, not the goods. Nothing on a shelf is ever taken from you.
  • Stolen cargo is not accepted.

The market has its own screen

  • The market is a page now, not the bottom half of the station page. It is first in the row of places at the top.
  • The station page is what a station is: who else is in dock, the belt, the board, the academy, the yard, the local news.
  • Nothing about trading changed. Same ladder, same goods, same prices.
